Privacy Policy

Effective October 31, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Firemind Web Design LLC ("VSEER," "we," "us") collects when you use the VSEER mobile apps, the website at vseer.app, and our related services (the "Services"), how we use it, and the choices you have. It is part of our Terms of Service.
The short version:
•
We do not sell your information, and we do not show ads.
•
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking tools.
•
Your ratings, collection, and reviews can be seen only by friends you accept.
•
If you match your contacts, the phone numbers are checked once and not saved, and the names never leave your phone.
•
You can export your films at any time and delete your account and its data.

1. Information you give us

•
Account: your email address and a password. Passwords are stored only in hashed form by our sign-in provider, and we can never read them.
•
Profile: your handle (username), your name, the title shown on your profile, and the avatar you pick. Avatars are chosen from film images supplied by TMDB; VSEER does not access or upload your photos.
•
Film activity: the ratings you give (Loved, Liked, Disliked, Hated), Hard Passes, your Watchlist, films you mark Haven't Seen or skip, when you did each, and which part of the app you were in.
•
Reviews you write, recommendations you send or receive (including any note), friend requests and friendships, medals you earn, and the notifications we create for you.
•
Phone number (optional): if you add one so friends can find you. We do not verify it by text message, and you can turn off "find me by my number" or remove it at any time.
•
Imports (optional): when you import a Letterboxd export or a film file, the app reads the file on your device and sends us only what is needed to add each film: its title, year, your rating or watch status, the date, and any review. We do not upload or keep the file itself.
•
Messages: anything you send us by email, such as a support question or a report.

2. Contacts

On iPhone and Android, you can choose to find friends from your contacts. The app asks for permission first, and you can say no and still use everything else.
If you allow it, the app reads your contacts' names and phone numbers on your device. It sends only the phone numbers to our servers, once, to check which of them belong to VSEER users who allow people to find them by number. We do not save those numbers or link them to your account. Contact names stay on your device. To prevent abuse, we keep a daily count of how many numbers each account looks up, but not the numbers themselves.
You can turn off contacts access at any time in your device settings.

3. Information collected automatically

When the app or website talks to our servers, our hosting providers process standard technical information, such as your IP address, device and browser type, and the time of each request, to deliver the Services, keep them secure, and fix problems. Searches you type are sent to our servers and to TMDB to find films, and they are not saved to your account.
Film images load directly from TMDB's servers, which receive your IP address the same way any website you visit does.
We do not currently use analytics or crash-reporting tools, advertising identifiers, or tracking pixels. If we add any, we will update this policy first.
If you swipe without an account, your swipes stay on your device and are not sent to us.

4. How we use information

•
To run the Services: create and secure your account, save your films, and keep them in sync across your devices.
•
To recommend films: your ratings, Hard Passes, Watchlist, and skips shape your taste profile and the films we suggest. Your friends' ratings help decide what to show you on the Tonight tab.
•
To power social features: finding friends, showing your profile, collection, medals, and reviews to your friends, delivering recommendations, and sending you in-app notifications.
•
To contact you about your account, for example to confirm your email, reset your password, or tell you about important changes. These are not marketing emails.
•
To protect the Services and our users: prevent spam, abuse, and fraud, and enforce our Terms.
•
To improve the Services, including by looking at anonymized or combined information that does not identify you.
•
To comply with the law.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it or share it for targeted advertising.

5. What other people can see

•
Other signed-in users can find you by your handle. Searching by phone number shows only a handle, never the number. Your name, picture, and title can be seen only by your friends and by people with a pending friend request with you.
•
Only friends you have accepted can see your collection, ratings, Hard Passes, Watchlist, medals, and reviews. Removing a friend ends their access right away.
•
A recommendation you send can be seen only by the friend you send it to.
•
Nobody else can see your phone number, email address, skips, Haven't Seen films, or search history.
VSEER profiles are not public web pages, and search engines cannot index them.

6. Your viewing information

Information about which films you have watched, rated, or saved is personal, and the federal Video Privacy Protection Act may apply to it. We do not disclose information that identifies you as having watched, rated, saved, or reviewed a particular film to any third party for advertising, marketing, or any other commercial purpose. Your friends see this information only because you chose to accept them as friends.

7. How we share information

We share information only in these cases:
•
Service providers that run parts of VSEER for us and may use the information only to provide their service: Supabase (database, sign-in, and account emails) and Cloudflare (website and server hosting). TMDB receives film IDs and search terms from our servers, but not who you are.
•
App stores: Apple and Google provide app downloads and updates under their own privacy policies.
•
Tips: if you tip us on Ko-fi, Ko-fi and its payment providers handle the payment under their own privacy policies. We never see your card or bank details. Ko-fi may share your name, email address, and any message you leave with us, and we use them only to thank you and keep records. Tips are not linked to your VSEER account.
•
When you ask us to: for example, when you export your films and share the file.
•
For legal and safety reasons: when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of VSEER, our users, or the public.
•
If VSEER changes hands: if the Services are transferred, for example to a company formed to run VSEER or in a sale or merger, your information may move with them and will remain protected by this policy. We will tell you if that happens.
•
Anonymized or combined information that cannot reasonably identify you.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.

8. Cookies, local storage, and device permissions

The website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. It uses your browser's local storage to keep you signed in. On iPhone and Android, your sign-in is kept in the device's secure storage (the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore).
Because we do not track you across websites or sell your information, there is nothing to opt out of with Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.
The only device permission VSEER asks for is Contacts, described in section 2. VSEER does not access your location, camera, microphone, or photos.

9. How long we keep information

We keep your account information and film activity for as long as you have an account, so your collection is there when you come back. Some information is kept for less time: skips are used only for a few weeks to keep films out of your stack, and the daily count of contact lookups is used only to prevent abuse. Technical logs are kept by our hosting providers for a limited time.
If the law requires us to keep something longer, or we need it to resolve a dispute or enforce our Terms, we keep it only as long as needed for that purpose.

10. Exporting and deleting your data

You can download your films and ratings at any time with the export option on the Account tab.
You can delete your account at any time by tapping Delete account on the Account tab, or by emailing info@vseer.app from the email address on your account. Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your profile, film activity, reviews, recommendations, friendships, medals, notifications, and phone number. It cannot be undone. Copies may remain in our backups for a limited time until they are overwritten, and we do not use them for anything else during that time.

11. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and database access rules that let each account read only what it is allowed to see. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires. Please use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else.

12. Children and teens

VSEER is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email info@vseer.app and we will delete it. Teens aged 13 to 17 may use VSEER only with a parent's or guardian's permission. We do not show ads to anyone or sell anyone's information, including teens.

13. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
•
know what personal information we have about you and get a copy of it, in a portable format;
•
correct information that is wrong;
•
delete your information;
•
opt out of the sale or sharing of your information, targeted advertising, or profiling (we do none of these); and
•
not be treated differently for using these rights.
You can do much of this yourself in the app: edit your profile, change or delete ratings and reviews, export your films, and delete your account. For anything else, email info@vseer.app. We will confirm your identity, usually by checking that the request comes from your account's email address, and reply within 45 days, or tell you if we need up to 45 more. An authorized agent may make a request for you with your written permission. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line, and if we deny the appeal, you can contact your state Attorney General.
California residents: we collect the categories of information described in sections 1 to 3, for the purposes in section 4, and disclose them only as described in section 7. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
Illinois residents: VSEER does not collect biometric information, such as face or fingerprint data.

14. Users outside the United States

VSEER is run from the United States, and your information is processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data protection laws from yours.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland: Firemind Web Design LLC is the controller of your personal data. We process it to provide the Services you asked for (our contract with you), for our legitimate interests in keeping the Services secure and improving them, with your consent (for example, contacts access, which you can withdraw at any time), and to meet legal obligations. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or move your data, and to object to processing based on our legitimate interests. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Where required, transfers to the United States rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as VSEER changes. The current version will always be available in the app and at vseer.app/privacy, with the date it took effect. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies, and where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent.

16. Other services and credits

VSEER links to services run by others, such as TMDB, JustWatch, and streaming services. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
Film information and images come from TMDB. This application uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB. Where to Watch information comes from JustWatch.
